Shipman Family Research Notes
January 2010   American Colonies

There sure is a lot of false information swirling around about this family - children that don't belong in this family, wrong dates and places, assumptions that have been put forth as fact - and on and on. And, while the internet seems to have added to the confusion, it certainly didn't originate with the ease of online sharing. So, we are back to the drawing board with a couple lines of this family trying to untangle some information we thought we knew. Luckily we have a fantastic professional genealogist in the family. We're certain she'll get it all figured out in no time.

In the meantime, if you have any source information to help us document this expansive family be sure to become a fan of our Facebook Page and leave a comment about how you are related. Or, you can let us know directly so we can compare notes. We look forward to hearing from you.

Interested in learning more about other lines of your family history? Let our professional genealogist know. She might already have some information you've been looking for.

September 2009   American Colonies

Daniel Shipman and Elizabeth Burleson began their family in rural Virginia in 1739. Eight years and four children later they moved down into North Carolina where they would live for the next forty plus years and Elizabeth would bear another five children. Several of their sons served in the American Revolution, thus this family is integral to the formation of a nation.

Now, over 170 years later, descendants of this couple number in the tens of thousands and are spread across the entire United States (and in over seven countries). This month, our focus is on connecting through our Facebook Page with the living descendants we have already identified in an effort to get us all connected. In future months we will be highlighting a grandchild each month so we can learn more about this amazing family! If you are descended from Daniel Shipman, be sure to let us know either by becoming a fan of our Facebook Page or sending us an email.
